Tunku Scholars support coral restoration efforts
In the last week of July 2023, a significant conservation effort unfolded on Pulau Lang Tengah. Zero Ong and Kaviarasan Chandran, students from the University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), executed Project JomRescue: Coral Restoration under the auspices of Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman. This student project aimed to understand the ongoing threats faced by coral reefs in Malaysia and contribute to the ongoing coral restoration efforts on Pulau Lang Tengah.

With Coralku’s guidance, Zero and Kaviarasan deployed 17 Reef Stars at the Summer Bay House Reef of Pulau Lang Tengah. These artificial structures, designed to provide a conducive environment for coral growth, were attached with 6 different species of hard corals. This student endeavor not only marked a proactive step in coral restoration but also underscored the pivotal role educational institutions play in addressing marine ecosystem challenges through hands-on conservation projects.
Thank you both!
