Ocean Week 2023

During Ocean Week at Pulau Lang Tengah from 4-10 June 2023, the enthusiastic marine guests of Summer Bay Resort had the unique opportunity to engage in a series of activities focused on ocean conservation. This initiative included a marine awareness talk and an engaging coral restoration activity with guests. Approximately 20 guests participated in the marine awareness talk, and 10 Reef Stars were deployed. The resort guests showed great interest in the Ocean Week activities as they could learn and actively participated in coral restoration while enjoying their stay on the island.

One of the highlights of Ocean Week for Coralku was the coral outreach event featuring renowned Olympian Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and her parents – Abdul Hadi Ahmad and Kimberly Ann Gagnon. Farah Ann and her parents were treated to an insightful coral talk, shedding light on the importance of coral reefs, the threats they face, and the coral restoration work carried out by Coralku on Pulau Lang Tengah.

Following the educational session, Farah Ann and Kimberly Ann were treated to a hands-on experience in Coralku restoration work. They deployed two Reef Star frames and planted 10 corals. This immersive experience allowed them to witness the immediate impact of their actions on the marine environment. Additionally,  they visited Coralku’s restoration and research sites, gaining a deeper understanding of the ongoing conservation work and the challenges marine biologists and environmentalists face in preserving these delicate ecosystems.

Overall, Ocean Week at Pulau Lang Tengah provided a platform for guests to actively contribute to marine conservation efforts while enjoying a memorable and educational experience.
